We are delighted to announce that we won the public vote to become Sainsbury’s Local in Leeds train station’s official Charity of the Year.

The partnership will see staff in the branch holding fundraising events in aid of the charity, hosting bucket collections, and raising awareness of the charity’s services amongst other staff and shoppers.

All funds raised throughout the year will help Support After Rape and Sexual Violence Leeds to continue to provide vital services including:

  • A free-to-call and confidential helpline (0808 802 3344) that gives women and girls affected by rape and/or sexual violence the opportunity to share their thoughts completely anonymously. For many reasons women and girls often don’t feel they can, or want to, talk to people who they know about what has happened to them. They also might not want to talk to anyone on a face-to-face basis. Our helpline provides a listening service, so there’s no pressure to answer specific questions and callers have the freedom to discuss as little, or as much, as they wish
  • Our face-to-face advocacy service providing women aged 18+ with information and guidance on a range of practical issues such as physical and mental health, legal processes, guidance on personal safety, finances and housing, and emotional support
  • Women and girls who call our helpline or use our text and email services often tell us that they would like to meet with a helpline volunteer to share their experiences. This partnership will support us to run our face-to-face emotional support service, which provides that opportunity. The support we provide face-to-face is exactly the same as on the telephone, text and email services. Women can see one of our helpline volunteers in our city-centre women-only safe space and they will listen to them and help them talk about how they are feeling.
